Garage Mechanic
Summary/Objective
Provides maintenance and repair of automotive and other equipment owned by the City.
Essential Functions
Repair and/or condition automobiles, trucks, graders, tractors, power mowers, and other mechanical equipment used by the various departments within the City.
Maintain standard shop records on each piece of equipment serviced by the Garage.
Grease equipment, change oil, and repair tires and tubes as necessary.
Service batteries, adjust brakes and lights, and align wheels.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions at job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent experience to perform the essential functions of the position
Preferred Education and Experience
- Automotive Technician Certificate.
- Three years’ experience
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Possession of or ability to obtain:
- A valid state driver’s license with CDL endorsement.
