Water Treatment Plant Operator
Summary
Perform the functions required in the proper treatment of the City’s water supply.
Essential Functions
Observe necessary system readings throughout the plant, controlling levels of water pressure, logging observations, reading and recording adjustments made in order to maintain proper level of water in tanks and towers.
Take samples of water supply at the designated sampling locations within and outside the plan to be submitted for proper testing.
Perform general maintenance work in the plant to assure facilities and equipment are in proper working order.
Perform, log and graph results of various regular chemical testing of water samples according to standard department procedures, reporting any unusual results to the Superintendent or the Chief Operator.
Interpret plant records and help keep the plant in compliance with State and Federal guidelines, completing required daily logs and necessary paperwork for compliance.
Make adjustment as needed to various valves and controls located throughout the plant based on results of test according to standard operating procedures.
Work with computers and have general knowledge of electronic instruments.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates primarily in a water plant. The employee will be exposed to a damp environment, stairs, narrow walkways, heights, grass/weeds when mowing and weedeating and extreme outside temperatures when necessary.
Physical Demands
The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, distinguish colors, operate hand tools
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Normal shift length is 12 hours and the work schedule may vary if necessary.
Travel
Limited travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience
- Any combination of education, training and/or experience to competently perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Has necessary water/wastewater licenses to operate plant
- One or more years of related experience.
